World Class Screen Protector . . . except . . .

I received the Tech Armor Screen Protector for my Samsung Galaxy S4 about three days ago. I sat nervously for the next three days, reading instructions, watching the video and praying that I wasn't going to screw up the application. Finally, late last night I built up the courage to apply it to my phone.

I washed my hands and began the installation video on my computer; cleaned my screen; peeled back protective film #1; aligned the screen protector; applied the screen protector; smoothed out all the air bubbles; peeled back protective film #2 and voila, my application was complete. I was a happy man! I felt compelled to celebrate and, even though the hour was late, did so with a Bombay Sapphire martini.

I woke this morning, looked over at the beautiful, gleaming phone sitting on my desk and realized I had INSTALLED THE PROTECTOR UPSIDE DOWN!

A very good screen protector for Galaxy S4

I would recommend this product to all the good people that purchase the Galaxy S4.

Before buying the Tech Armor clear protector, I tried a matte protector, but the clear one is much better in my openion.
The problem with the matte version is that it causes the phone's display to appear blurred.

The clear protector and the S4 are a perfect match, for those of you who want to fully enjoy the
phone's amazing HD display. Be advised that fingerprints are visible on the clear protector when the screen is off,
but in most cases are invisible when the screen is on (fingerprints are usually not visible with matte screen protectors).

On the down side, it is tricky to install, but this is a problem that is true for all the different brands of screen
protectors. Another thing is that Tech Armor includes only ONE sticky patch to help remove dust from the screen before
installing the protector. This is actually very helpful to insure that there is no remaining dust, after cleaning the screen with
the mini microfiber cloth provided in the kit. However, I think that they should include three of those patches in the kit
(to go with the three protectors), because the provided patch is not reusable.

It's the little details that make it great.

First screen protector I've ever installed without a single mote of dust!

And that's not to say I'm in a dust-free environment -- quite the opposite. It's that this protector includes a way to deal with the dust. There's a strip of "dust removal tape", which is just tacky enough. It works as follows:

You clean the screen, like normal. Then you peel the film off the protector, like normal. Then you install the protector, and probably snag a few bits of dust under it, like normal.

But then you peel the protector back where the dust is, and use the dust-removal tape to pull the dust right off its adhesive backing. Play whack-a-mole with dust a few times, and eventually you'll lay the protector back down with zero bubbles, zero dust.

Maybe this is a recent innovation, or maybe my last protector was just cheap, but this one impressed the heck out of me. Also, it fits perfectly (maybe a 1mm border around all sides), has gaps for the home button and sensors/cameras, and looks good.

The matte finish adds a bit of "shimmer" to the display appearance, as the surface features act as tiny lenses to accentuate individual pixels and the borders between them. It's distracting for about 5 minutes then you get used to it, and it doesn't hurt usability. It's not fingerprint-proof but resistant -- you can leave a print but it takes effort!
