5Slightly thicker but still fits, no charger included

By Andrew

Battery thickness is 5.7 mm, or about .7 more than stock. The stock case fits with a little effort but snaps confidently into place, there are no squeaks or clicks around the back edges. Product quality seems very good, and I like the plastic bag the battery was shipped in. Nice touch. The only thing worth of note right now is that unlike the product title suggests, this does not come with a battery charger.

The thickness should not prevent fitment of the phone into any case you may have. I own the Spigen Neo Hybrid and Slim Armor cases and it fits both equally well.

Update!
I'm getting about 15% more battery life out of the ZeroLemon over stock, which is exactly what I had hoped for. That extra juice is enough to get me through the day without the "energy anxiety" that can come with the stock one.

For me, I ultimately wanted the best battery life I could possibly get without increasing the size of the phone. Even though this battery is slightly larger and weighs just enough more to notice, it's a great value considering you get to keep the thin profile and can continue to use normal cases. This battery is full of win for anyone who desires those things.

3ZeroLemon 3000mAh is not 3000mAh

By longcat

The stock Galaxy S4 battery is 2600mAh, and this battery claims 3000mAh.

I used the IEC61960:2003 test method and a UBA 5 battery analyzer to determine if the battery meets the claimed capacity or not. This boils down to charging the battery fully, then discharging it using a load that is 20% of the battery's claimed capacity, down to 2.75V. A 3000mAh battery gets a 600mA load, which will discharge it in 5 hours.

My results:
Five Hour Discharge Test: Capacity=2.801 Ah (93.4% rated), Energy=10.41 Wh (91.3% rated).
Five Hour Discharge Test: Capacity=2.808 Ah (93.6% rated), Energy=10.45 Wh (91.7% rated).
5W Discharge to 3.2V: Capacity=2.642 Ah (88.1% rated), Energy=9.336 Wh (81.9% rated).

The capacity is about 2801mAh. This is better than the stock 2600mAh by about 7%, but is also about 7% less than claimed 3000mAh capacity.

Battery manufacturers have relied on the inability of consumers to scientifically, repeatably, and objectively test battery capacity to verify their claims. The dark ages are over, and the truth will be shown.

4Long lasting, but seems to degrade reception

By vacaloca

I won't comment on the dead horse, which is to say this battery works great if you need an extended source of power, and NFC functionality works great... now on to the part that I didn't think I'd be reviewing (I am on Verizon Wireless network):

I had the same ZeroLemon battery for the Galaxy S3, but at the time I was not frequenting a fringe signal area like I am now at work. Presumably there is heavy building shielding at work, as we work w/ x-ray detection equipment. I noticed the ZeroLemon battery made a difference in signal strength vs the previous extended battery/back cover I had been using.

With the Anker/Hyperion battery & cover I had been using, I had spurts of 3G coverage, but mostly 1x or no data coverage at all (but I still had cell signal). With the ZeroLemon battery & cover, I mostly had 1x data, but every time I would pick up my phone from the desk at work, I'd notice that I'd have no service whatsoever (data or phone calls). I began to wonder if it was something environment related, so I decided to do a test when I got home.

I placed the phone on a glass coffee table in the living room, and proceeded to take received power/signal strength (dBm and asu) readings, exchanging between the OEM, Anker/Hyperion, and ZeroLemon batteries and battery covers. For those not in the know, basically a higher negative dBm value means the signal strength is worse -- i.e. -116 dBm is better than -118 dBm. As far as asu numbers, a higher number indicates better reception, so 27 asu is better than 24 asu. Arbitrary Strength Unit (ASU) is an integer value proportional to the received signal strength measured by the mobile phone.

Here are the results:

battery cover type
ZeroLemon ZL rubber cover on: -116 dBm 24 asu
ZeroLemon ZL rubber cover off: -118 dBm 24 asu
Anker plastic cover on: -113 dBm 27 asu
Anker plastic cover off: -115 dBm 25 asu
OEM OEM plastic cover on: -114 dBm 26 asu
OEM OEM plastic cover off: -111 dBm 29 asu* (this one is the odd one out, see note)
OEM ZL rubber cover on: -113 dBm 27 asu (not practical, battery can fall out)

*This is the only test where the battery does not make contact against the glass surface, but the phone back does instead.

Interestingly enough, the power received is slightly better when using the generic plastic covers that come with Anker/Hyperion/etc batteries as opposed to the OEM battery/cover. The sad part is that the ZeroLemon battery with its cover gets 3 dBm (3 asu) less than the Anker/plastic cover I was using previously. That's nothing to sneeze that -- dB is a log 10 based scale. A 3 dB drop is a factor of 2 decrease in signal power.

I didn't see that the ZeroLemon battery was blocking anything obvious, but I haven't put much thought into it, as there's different antennas around the back cover of the phone, and I haven't looked at which are the ones for the CDMA/LTE radio. I just figured others might want to know that if they're in a fringe area, there's still reason to pack the OEM battery and/or the extended one.

I'll probably update this later if I get a change to get some signal numbers at work.
